Art and Music: The Schroon Lake Association's 2015 Education Series

The Schroon Lake Association, the areas longest serving watershed protection organization, proudly announced that it will open its 2015 education series with a presentation by famed Adirondack Photographer Carl Heilman and folksinger Dan Berggren. These two well-known artists will present an evening of beautiful music and photographs at the Schroon Lake Central School Auditorium at 7:30 pm on Friday July 10, 2015.

The presentation will be part of the Schroon Lake Association’s 2015 Membership Meeting but is open to the public. All are welcome. There is no admission charge, but area residents and seasonal visitors are urged to join the SLA.

Berggren is well known for songwriting and his musical talents. A tradition- based songsmith, Dan Berggren writes with honesty, humor and a strong sense of place. His songs explore the many dimensions of home, hard- working folks, taking care of our planet and each other.

While his roots are firmly in the Adirondacks where he was raised, Dan's music has branched out across many borders. The award-winning educator and musician has entertained audiences from Kentucky to Michigan, Belgium to Bulgaria, and Zimbabwe to Transylvania. Writer and environmental activist Bill McKibben has said: "Dan is a throwback to the old role of the folk singer . . . he's articulating things that need to be said right now."

Carl Heilman is a world renowned and award winning photographer, whose pictures of the Adirondacks have graced the pages of books and magazines including Adirondack Life. His panoramic views from mountain tops within the Blue Line have captured the hearts of all who love the Adirondacks.

“We are indeed fortunate to have these two artistic giants present at our first educational program of the year” said SLA President Mark Granger. “Through music and photography the help remind us of why we are fighting to preserve our precious lakes, rivers and streams.”

We hope to see you there on July 10, 2015.
