The Barber of Seville in Schroon

This week’s production from the Seagle Music Colony first premiered in 1862,  at the Teatro Argentina in Rome, Italy.  Although written 30 years after Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, the story is really a prequel to that opera, and revolves around the clever and enterprising main character – the barber himself – Figaro

We are hearing rave reviews about rehearsals for this show. So why choose this play?

From SMC: “Choosing our repertoire each year is an exciting challenge to find pieces that serve our mission of top-notch artist training and excellent performances.  We try very hard to put together a season that allows us to highlight each of our young artists in at least one featured role, give as many as we can a wonderful learning opportunity, and entertain our loyal audience members.

"The Barber of Seville is an excellent showcase for the artists who play each character in the show, stretching their musical and vocal skills as well as their comedic acting.  Since we are performing the show in its original Italian, it’s also a good opportunity for the artists to gain experience singing in this essential operatic language. On top of all that, it’s one of the most beloved operas in the repertory which our audiences are bound to enjoy”.
