Laker Michel Michelsen Lee tips us to a special program organized by the Albany branch of the Red Cross, helping  local vets with their second annual "Totes of Hope" campaign.

It’s designed to collect personal care items like socks, shaving cream, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste, for veterans who need a helping hand. All items must be new.

Michel tells us there are two collection boxes in Schroon: Friedman Realty and the Schroon Lake branch of the Glens Falls National Bank.

From Michel:

“There are also flyers at the Post Office, the bank, Friedman’s, and the used book store of the Schroon Lake Friends of the Library,.

The collection phase of the campaign ends on Labor Day, September 1, 2014.  I will let you know the results of the collection efforts in the Schroon Lake area.”

It’s great cause and we all know how much $5 or $10 spent at the DG, aka: The Dollar General aka “The Schroon Lake Shopping Mall”  can go!

Lawn Fest: The Encore At Sticks & Stones

There’s a new Friday tradition that is taking off in a big way at Sticks and Stones: The Steven L. Smith Band performing live, on the lawn outside the restaurant. Last week’s first outing was a huge success.

Adding to the ambience of a live, outdoor concert, with a band that is like local rock and roll royalty, is the roaring fire, folks enjoying the concert from the comfort of their lawn chairs and blankets and those munching away on S&S specials from the comfort of the outdoor patio deck.

And here is potentially the best part: There is a special Paradox Brewery Beer Hut set up outside on the grass: serving FOUR ice cold Paradox Craft Draft Beers. Tonight from 7pm to 10 pm.
