The smile on the face of Shelby Davis Saturday afternoon said it all: another successful Schroon Chili Cook-off. Dozens of folks got the chance to taste 11 different chilis, created by area restaurants, awesome home chefs and fire and rescue squads. Many of those tasting yesterday were sledders, on the Annual Schroon North Hudson Snow mobile Club’s Poker Run.

“I’m really happy, but I always want more chilis,” Shelby told Schroon Laker.

“My plan is to grow this and attract restaurants from all over the North Country.”

The big winner  -- Fran Ramirez -- who picked up two awards, was stunned when she heard her name called twice.

From Fran: “Had an amazing time at the Schroon Lake Chili Cook Off with an awesome group of people! So many delicious chilis, with their own unique flavors! That's why I am so surprised, no floored, that I took home 2 trophies, Best Meaty Chili and Best Fire/Rescue Squad Chili, representing Schroon Lake EMS! And not to mention 2nd place for People's Choice! Thank you all who came out to support our squad! and Thank you to Mr.Ps Mr. P's Mountain Smokehouse and Schroon Lake Area Chamber of Commerce! — feeling fantastic”.

All of the profits from the event, which Shelby started four years ago,  go to the Schroon EMS Squad. For the full official list, check out our Food and Drink Section.
