Schroon’s Start To Summer Is Now!!!

UPDATE: THE STRAND THEATRE IS OPEN -- After it's fall and winter hiatus, movie fans and Strand Theatre lovers rejoice: Larry and Liz have reopened their art deco masterpiece for the season. This Memorial Day weekend, Friday through Sunday nights at 8pm, the feature is Captain America: Civil War. The movie plays on the same nights next weekend.

Then greater Schroon and the ‘Dacks await your arrival – starting right now. It’s gonna be along weekend full of music, food and  fun in the sun. Come Monday, we'll take a moment to thank our veterans for their service, that allows us to celebrate.

The weekend kicks off  THURSDAY, with Mark Piper’s Open Mic Night at Witherbee’s Carriage House from 6:30 pm. Friday morning there is a concert at the Mountainside Academy featuring Driven 11, at 10 am..

There’s also live music at Sticks and Stones Saturday and Sunday nights. Be sure to check out their new rock garden!

This weekend also marks the unofficial start to the Schroon’s annual garage sales – there will be signs everywhere.

Here are the highlights of the weekend:

Friday

It’s the official opening of the Paradox Brewery’s brand, spanking new summer tasting room, housed in a gigantic all weather-proof tent.

Saturday

The Mountainside Thrift Store (Opposite the Paradox Brewery) is open Saturday. Bargains galore!

Looking for a good read? The Friends of Schroon Lake Library hold their first book sale in their newly renovated space in the basement of the Hudson Headwaters Health Building, Saturday 10 am – 2 pm.

The Schroon Lake Community Garden is holding their annual  plant sale this Saturday from 10 am -  2 pm the Community Garden between The Glans Falls Bank and the Higher Grounds Coffee shop.

Saturday and Sunday

It’s the annual Lion’s Club two day garage sale and raffle at the Boat House. The space is packed full of goodies and baskets. The event ends Sunday afternoon.

The Adirondack Arts and Crafters set up shop near the bandstand. They will take their regular spot starting Thursdays on the lawn outside the Town Building.

Monday

Lest We Forget. There are several Memorial Day Services honoring our veterans. In Schroon the Annual Memorial Day ceremony put on by American Legion Post 982 and VFW Post 362 will be at 10:00 am at the Veterans Memorial Wall on Dock Street.

At 11 am in North Hudson there is a ceremony next to the Town Hall. Please come support all of the men and women who ave given so much for our freedom.

The Adirondack Veteran's Memorial Day Service will be at 12 Noon at the Albert Monroe Memorial Park, Johnson Rd, Adirondack.

Remember to take a little time out of your weekend to honor those who made it possible.  Thank a Vet!

Joe Steiniger flags us to an upcoming event hosted by the Community Fund for the Gore Mountain Region, featuring Andy Robinson. It’s about building your board and telling your story, says Robinson. From Andy:

Listeria Alert on Stewart’s Snacks

Heads up Stewart’s Fans: This just in from corporate HQ:

“Stewart’s Shops is recalling all bags of its private label Stewart’s Shops Sunshine Cranberry Delite. This product includes sunflower kernels that are part of a national FDA recall and have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

This action is a result of a FDA expanded recall by First Source of Tonawanda, NY, the Manufacturer of the Sunshine Cranberry Delite.

The recall involves all code dates of the 5oz bags sold at Stewart’s Shops locations. Customers should return the product to their nearest store for a full refund.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall.
