#TBT: Camp Redwing

Back in the day, Schroon Lake was home to several, thriving summer camps. Among them Camp Red Wing For Girls. The camp was founded in 1918 and closed in 1980. Hundreds of girls -- and several generations -- called the camp home for two months each summer. We recently heard from one of them, Dree Henniger, who shared this unusual memory:

“1969 Woodstock in background. Sgt. Peppers hottest album. Cabin: Sleepy Hollow. Two waitresses tricked by camp to convince us two GA  girls could attend this wonderful exclusive camp only to find out we were slaves to the kitchen for early am set up serve breakfast clean up in time to set up for lunch, serve lunch, clean up after lunch only to repeat ad nauseam the dinner routine. Oh especially was fun when boys rowed over from across Schroon Lake and we were stuck in kitchen while they danced away”
