Adult Summer Camp: Right Here in Our Own Backyard
For most of the summer season, Southwoods is one of the most desired camps on the east coast folks of a certain income bracket like to send their children to on. Those kids enjoy an amazing four week adventure on the shores of pristine Paradox Lake.
The decades old co-ed camp prides itself on its quality programs, and, according to their brochure, “a handpicked, mature and motivated staff who teach, inspire, comfort and foster life-long memories and friendships.”
Campers are immersed in a wonderful variety of outdoor, waterfront, arts and sports programs.
But fast forward to the end of the season, where Southwoods provides an entirely different experience -- for adults! The 20 something set gets to experience a booze filled three day sleepaway camp. The company running the operation goes by the moniker “Camp No Counselors” and operates in several states.
It was inspired by a group of friends who gathered back in the summer of 2013 to capture the freedom of what their collective summer camp experiences had been like -- but without the counselors!
Sure, there’s traditional events like capture the flag, arts programs and all types of water sports. But the orange juice at breakfast contains champagne and the tomato juice, vodka.
That’s on top of the all-day open bar and an all-night dance party. New York's Time Out magazine has the story here, with the headline: “Relive the glory days at a booze-soaked adult summer camp”.
