Adirondack Shindig Update: Are You Ready?
By Kathy Hill
The entire focus of the second annual Adirondack Shindig -- in the hamlet of Adirondack in Horicon -- is to raise awareness and funds to preserve the 1881 Church for a new life as the Horicon Museum Annex.
This great building, nearly on the shore of the East side of Schroon Lake, was built for the purpose of bringing people of all faiths together. It has weathered the years and now needs renovations before we lose her.
SATURDAY AUGUST 8 starts with an ADK Yard Sale: 9am to 3pm in the parking lot by the ballfield, 16th year. For space contact Peggie @ 518-494-4430.
Throughout the day we hope to see the Brant Lake Association and the East Shore Schroon Lake Association and maybe even the Tri Lakes Business Alliance challenging each other to a Bocce contest at the Recreation Field.
We also hope to see the Northern Warren Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club challenge the Schroon Lake Snowmobile Club to some kind of an event, maybe a "tug of war", maybe "horseshoes."
Starting at 3 pm we close Red Wing Road from in front of the ADK General Store to the intersection of Church Street. We have artisans, local food growers, a dowser and setting up in the parking lot past the post office starting at 4 pm the Shindig, which begins at 5 pm “to blow the top of Adirondack NY!!!!!!!!”
Country and Western band, City Limits, returns from last year and plays from 5pm to 8 pm, where dancing in the street is on for old and young alike.
This band has been recruited to play at many local events this year and they are an awesome show. They can really get a crowd out of their seats.
Artisans will be showing off their talents at the same time.
The ADK Shakespeare Company will arrive around 6:30 pm (maybe by boat) fresh from their performance of Romeo & Juliet that day at the Schroon Manor Amphitheater, to stroll through the crowd and entertain in costume.
Adirondack General Store and Buttino’s Italian Bistro will be providing cookout style foods, gelato and more. Last year we had approximately 200 people and this year we of course are hoping for more.
I will be emceeing like a crazy woman (lost 2 lbs. at the Shindig last year) dancing in the street, with my mobile headset ready to go!
We will have games and prizes for the kids and the young at heart.
The Historical Society will be silent raffling donations from local businesses and selling 50/50 tickets and historical books.
And, we are hoping to have the Author of the Adk 102 Club book in residence for book signings.
North Warren Chamber and the Schroon Lake Chamber both setting up booths.
The Tri Lakes Business Alliance will be bringing in a model T and advertising for the upcoming Rum Runners weekend. Last year we even had some actual Rum Runners in costume!
Maybe they will show us where the booze is stashed.
Classic Cars are uber welcome - We don't have any plan for a car show or a crowd favorite ballot but if someone wants to take this on we can make it work, there is lots of shady parking for them just off Church Street although the parking is not paved.
Please Note: (RAIN DATE SUNDAY 08/09/15 FROM 1 TO 4 PM)
