Raga Music Comes To Schroon

This Sunday, (April 17) True North Yoga features a performance by the French-American, Flutist Composer and teacher Etienne Rolin.

Etienne was raised in California in the fifties during growing into maturity during the “golden age of rock”. After degrees in Music and Philosophy at the University San Francisco then moved to France in the seventies to encounter some of the world great pedagogues and composers : Nadia Boulanger, Pierre Boulez. His eclectic nature has led him to encounter the great masters of jazz and Hindustani music Jerry Bergonzi, Harisparad Charusia.

The Bansuri flute that Etienne has mastered over the past 4 years is a bamboo instrument mixing subtle hues and powerful overtones. The solo recital is a way to connect with the essence of Hindustani raga and to invite the audience to embark upon a sonic journey.
