Raga Music Comes To Schroon

This Sunday, (April 17) True North Yoga features a performance by the French-American, Flutist Composer and teacher Etienne Rolin.

Etienne was raised in California in the fifties during growing into maturity during the “golden age of rock”. After degrees in Music and Philosophy at the University San Francisco then moved to France in the seventies to encounter some of the world great pedagogues and composers : Nadia Boulanger, Pierre Boulez. His eclectic nature has led him to encounter the great masters of jazz and Hindustani music Jerry Bergonzi, Harisparad Charusia.

The Bansuri flute that Etienne has mastered over the past 4 years is a bamboo instrument mixing subtle hues and powerful overtones. The solo recital is a way to connect with the essence of Hindustani raga and to invite the audience to embark upon a sonic journey.

Etienne Rolin currently resides in Bordeaux France, performing, composing, conducting, improvising and teaching following the inspirational lead of creative music making. He has founded numerous groups including Prana Bis Bansuri with tablas and sitar, guitar or accordéon

ADK Shakes Spring 2016 Season

Actor Sean Lounsbury, a much beloved member of Schroon’s Adirondack Shakespeare Company who was critically injured an a cra crash last September, has made a full recovery and will be part of the company’s Spring Troop.

Sean, who flirted with death after he received life threatening injuries in head on collision in Johnsburg, “is doing remarkably well”,  according to Tara Bradway, ADK Shake’s Artistic Director. Five other actors also received injuries in the crash.  All have made full recoveries.

“Sean’s injuries prevented him from being a part of the season. He is doing remarkably well, and the Company is excited to announce his return to the stage this season as Bassanio in The Merchant of Venice and reprises his role as Flint in Songs of the Iroquois: Turtle Island,” Tara said.

“He will also stage manage Julius Caesar as he continues to prepare for his upcoming stint as the title role in Hamlet this autumn.  The Company is grateful to have Sean back onstage this season.”

From Sean: “As difficult as my recovery was last fall, I cannot imagine how many times that difficulty would be multiplied if the accident had not happened here in Adirondack Park, I thank the accident for exposing to me the warmth and unconditional love this community has, not just for me, but for humanity. Citizens of Adirondack Park, Tara, Patrick (Stiler), in my heart your love will be requited for eternity.”

For the first time the company is also offering a number of educational performances for local students of last summer’s original children’s play, Songs of the Iroquois: Turtle Island.
