RIP: Sheila Marie Secor

Schroon Laker Sheila Marie Secor passed away on March 1, 2015, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was 68.

Friends and family will gather at the Schroon Lake Fire House, Cedar Hill Drive, Schroon Lake, from 2 to 4 pm this  Saturday, March 14, 2015.

GoodBye To Mr. P's Smokehouse: Beloved Restaurant to Close For Good

The fire is out at Mr. P's Smokehouse. After much thought and deep soul searching, Chefs Shelby Davis and Chris Palmatier, will not re-open for the season.

In a moving missive to Mr. P's Facebook fans, Chefs Shelby and Chris explains how they came to their decision. We, like many of our readers will be, are saddened  -- and a little freaked out -- by this news, but totally understand. You can read all about it in our Food and Drink Section.

 

Fishing Derby Countdown

The local economy is about to get another boost with the influx of a couple of hundred fishermen and women for the Annual Ice Fishing Derby next weekend. (March 7th & 8th).

The big winners are area eateries, bars, and local lodging facilities. The event, staged by the Schroon Lake Fish and Game Club, attracts entrants from all over. Tickets are $15 each and are on sale now at the Fish & Game Club, Flanagan’s Pub, The Timberwolf, The Black Bear in Pottersville, the Sunoco on Route 9 and Crossroads in Chestertown.

Cash prizes are awarded for five species of fish: Northern Pike, Lake Trout, Salmon, Perch and Pickerel. For more information call 518-532-7953.
