Schroon Welcomes The Drake Ring-Necked Duck

This just in from photographer Pat Thorne, keeping us current on all of the splendors of Spring.

“Another. welcomed sight was of this drake Ring-Necked Duck.  He is very stylish with his  black head, bib, and back against his white belly.  His bill is lined with white and hence the name ring-bill.  They nest along small lakes and marshes. They feed on aquatic plants.  I heard this low whistling noise and then a “rrr” sound.  It was the male and female calling back and forth to one another.  The male whistles and the female makes the “rrr” sound.  There were at least a dozen of them in this flock”.

Thanks again, Pat!!!

Our recent post about TV’s American Pickers – heading to our area – seems to have paid off! With over 6,160 folks  reached via our post on Schroon Laker.com's  Facebook Page, and thousands more on the www.schroonlaker,com website, we got the buzz going.

It looks like Witherbee’s Carriage House, is on the short list of potentials – as the producers of the show consider who will make the cut for a visit by Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, who have made a business of traveling around the country in search of hidden gems.

And as we all know, Witherbee’s is a living museum of Schroon and ADK history.

From Witherbee’s:

Ok friends of Witherbee's Carriage House, now is the time we need your help! We have received an e-mail from an associate producer of AMERICAN PICKERS! They have an interest in our antique collection and have requested more information and pictures. You can help get them here by calling 1-800-OLD-RUST, or e-mailing AmericanPickers@cineflix.com. Please help us put the beautiful  Town of Schroon Lake in the national eye!
