Harpeth Rising: Get Your Tickets Now!!!

I’ve just listened to a sneak preview from Harpeth Rising’s new album, Shifted. And  I can’t get their catchy tunes of this extraordinary American roots trio out of my head.

The young ladies take center stage Tuesday at the Boat House, as part of the Schroon lake Arts Council's sensational summer series. The combo is made up of violin and vocals by Jordana Greenberg, Rebecca Reed-Lunn on banjo and vocals and Maria Di Meglio on cello and vocals take folk, bluegrass and rock to a new level – all the while with a firm hat tip to their roots and classical instruments, which Rebecca shines pulling some unique sounds out of her banjo. Really!.

The band -- who get their name from a river near Nashville --  has been testing whatever the official definition of Americana music is for five years. They are big on fusion -- from  newgrass, rock and folk into a new, progressive style that's spirit lifting and smile producing.

The young women play everything from their own original compositions to traditional ballads and even go out on the ledge with classic rock standards like “Stairway to Heaven” and “House of the Rising Sun.”

As is typical with all great American Roots bands, the ladies come from all over, bringing the styles, their own life stories and musical histories with them.

Leader Greenberg grew up in southern Indiana, just outside the town of French Lick and went on to study classical music at Indiana University. where she would eventually meet Reed-Lund (From Davis, CA)  and then Di Meglio) Brooklyn, NY) who were also studying to be classical musicians.

But it was on a chance summer road trip to folk festivals around the country that Greenberg and Reed-Lund discovered a musical connection that extended well beyond their classical backgrounds. With the later addition of Di Meglio to the band, the trio stared working on their impressive harmonies and folk music repertoire.

Harpeth Rising has released four albums, including 2013’s critically acclaimed Tales from Jackson Bridge. They have just completed their newest album, Shifted, their fifth, will feature prominently at the Boat House Concert on Tuesday. Word of mouth has showered them with a ton of enthusiast fans.
