Prayers For ADK Shakes Company

Several members of the ADK Shakes family are recovering after a horrific head on collision in Johnsburg on Thursday night. Four members of the troop were  severely hurt and a fifth member critically injured in the roll over crash.

All five were rushed to Glens FallsHospital, with the most critically injured air lifted to the Trauma Center at Albany Med, according to Analise Rigan part of the extended ADK Shakes family.

Four members were released from the hospital and are now recovering locally. The fifth member remains in a critical, but stable condition at Albany Med. The accident happened about 5:15 pm on 28N.

“Understandably everyone is very shaken up,” Analise told Schroon Laker today. The outpouring of support has been amazing.”

The crash happened on the eve of ADK Shakes Fall season getting underway. Several actors had just arrived in the North Country on Thursday to begin rehearsals.

“Right now plans for the Fall Season are up in the air. The troop is considering what to do,” Analise said.

The Company’s Artistic Director, Tara Bradway, posted the following to Facebook.

"Right now, everyone is very shaken up and traumatized but in as good spirits as possible, and we are feeling all your love and prayers and good thoughts. Please, please continue to send them our way, especially to Albany”.

You can read more about the accident from the Post Star, here.

Woodstock Schroon Style

While the location may not be Max Yasgur's  farm in the hamlet of White Lake in the town of Bethel, NY, there will be a whole lot of music pumping out of our own Fish and Game Club on Saturday.

It's the second annual Rock for Rhonda benefit concert.

Rhonda lost a courageous battle with cancer last year

Eight bands are scheduled to play from noon until 11 PM. One of the organizers,  John Wardle,  expects a "fantastic turn out" with a picture perfect late summer day forecast.

The event celebrates the life of Rhonda and raises money for a foundation to financially support her young daughter.

"We have a great line-up, it's going to be a pretty awesome day, " John told Scroon Laker today.

"This year we are charging a small fee with  all monies raised going to the foundation."

There are numerous raffles, with a golf cart as the grand prize. The action kicks off at noon with bands playing outside until 5 PM. There will be an hour break until 6 pm when the action moves inside the clubhouse.

Tomorrow's line-up includes The Gregson Brothers, "little" Willie Playmore, Juxtapose, Joe Roblee, Beyond Driven, Sons of Octomom and BarneStorm.

The later is Rhona's old band of John Wardle, Dave Humell, BillCasey and Skip Luppy.

Watch Out For Rum Runners & Bootleggers This Weekend

The Boys Are Back In Town (and the ladies, too) for this weeken's Rum Runner's Weekend

Next weekend – beware of actual ADK Marathon runners...this weekend be on the lookout for actual rum runners – although how much booze they will be actually carrying remains to be seen.

It’s all part of the Tri-Lakes Business Alliance’s Rum Runners Weekend.

Back in the days of prohibition, Route 9 in our parts of the ‘Dacks was the “hooch Highway” with thousands of gallons of moonshine moving south from Canada, and area farms, to a thirsty market downstate.

This annual event, which involves the towns of Chestertown, Brant Lake and Pottersville, celebrates those days  of the roaring 20s  with a four day festival, which began Thursday with a casino night. Characters in costume, amazing antique cars and prop weapons bring this fun event to life. More about the history of rum running can be found here. We’ve got the entire line-up in our Summer Fun in the ‘Dacks 2015 section.
