Schroon Lake Fire Department Auxiliary is Alive and Well

Just a week ago, the Schroon Lake Fire Departmen  Ladies Auxiliary was on the verge of being disbanded, after a huge membership drain.

But thanks to a grass roots social media campaign, waged by the imitable Laura Donaldson, word got out, resulting in several new members joining the auxiliary. From Laura:

“Thank you, thank you, and thank you!!! What a wonderful response. Over 10 responded to our plea and came to our meeting with great enthusiasm, to be apprentices and learn the ropes. Anyone else that would still like to consider this an organization and think they would be a good fit, it’s the last Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm at the firehouse. Please come.”

The auxiliary’s reach into the community is wide reaching: from their hugely popular Christmas Bazaar, Santa at the Firehouse, the Ladies float  in the Fourth of July Parade,  their Easter Basket raffle to providing full meals,  coffee and sandwiches  at the firehouse when there’san  emergency.

Congrats, Laura.

RIP: Lucia Ross 1917 – 2016

We have some sad news to report, courtesy of Laura Donaldson: The passing of Schroon Laker Lucia Ross. From Laura:

“Sad news - Lucia Ross passed away early this morning. Born 1917, she was 98-years-old. She would have been 99 on April 1, 2016.

I believe she was the oldest living person in the Town of Schroon but has been residing at the Tri County Nursing home in North Creek for eight years. Loved by everyone she met, Lucia had a sense of humor and sewed for those when she could. She has sewn all over this area and for many years had done great quality upholstery work.

Her daughter, Betsy Ross, will have a spring/summer service at my home, Rocky Acres Inn B&B.  I will let you know more in the future. There will not be any announcements in the paper - so please share this with anyone that knew her. Thank you. (Love you mom-Ross, she was my neighbor!!)”
