A little more than 30 miles west of Schroon, sits one of the most prized of the 20 great camps in the Adirondacks: Camp Santanoni, in Newcomb. And Camp Santanoni In The Winter is the topic of a big spread in today’s New York Times.

Camp Santanoni is the only Great Camp owned by New York State, which hosts a series of winter open houses every year and recently opened its doors to more than 200 people who accepted the wilderness challenge of hiking five miles on snow-shoes through the snow to reach Camp the rustic retreat built for 19th-century tycoons the years 1870 and 1920.

Camp Santanoni, a National Historic Landmark, was owned by Robert Pruyn, an Albany banker, and his wife, Anna. It is one of many Gilded Age retreats in the Adirondacks whose signature architecture, featuring logs, fieldstone and bark, became known as Great Camps. You can read more about all Camp Santanoni has to offer in the winter in this terrific story by Paul Post, by clicking here.

Romance In The ‘Dacks: A Big Kiss To Sticks and Stones

Sticks and Stones gets a big hug and kiss as one of Most Romantic Restaurants in the Adirondacks.

That’s according to Upstate New York.com’s just published list of the top six restauraunt, that make for “a memorable meal in the Adirondacks”. Another of our local favs, The Owl At Twilight, also gets a nod.

Here's part of what author Allison Kanaley writes about S&S:

Don't let the fact that pizza is a main dish here make you think this place isn't romantic. Sure, it's billed as casual dining – which is likely to delight the romantic-but-not-white-linen types – but fresh food cooked in a wood-fired oven is as good as it gets.

Congrats Steve and Gary. You can read By Allison’s story by clicking  here.  Meanwhile, S&S has a special super bowl menu for your at home parties. Anyone for wings?
