Congrats go to the following who all took runner up honors:

Best Outdoor Dining: Sticks and Stones Wood Fire Bar and Bistro, Schroon Lake

We caught up with two of the winners today who were both  very surprised and very happy.

Adirondack’s Rustic Gallery  founder Barry Gregson, took time out of his long day in his workshop to express disbelief about the nod. “It is great and we are grateful,” Barry told Schroon Laker.

“We were a big deal back in the 1980s, but then the publicity dropped off.  I didn’t even know that there wasa contest where people could vote. We only learned about it last night when some customers of ours called.”

Barry has been in the rustic furniture making business for 33 years. By far his signature item is his stick chairs, which he estimated he’s made around 2,800 of them. For one restaurant alone he made 100, then another 100 when the place burned to the ground.”

 “I’m just happy that people have recognized us and I’m  happy to get the chance to glue sticks together”.

Sticks and Stone’s co-founder Steve Holmes was equally stunned. “ I knew there something like this out there, but never paid much attention. We are very happy about this honor. It shows we have a lot of fans out there who took the time to vote”.

“It’s nice going into our fourth  summer here having this.

We’ve gota call into Nancy  and Larry at the Tumble Inn. This exquisite B&B is no stranger to the Adirondack mag’s Best Of The ‘Dacks list, having won the category for the last two years.  You can read about it by clicking here.

Paddling on Private Streams in the 'Dacks?

New York's highest court will decide a case pitting landowners' property rights against the public's right to paddle down a stream through private land, according to a report by the Associated Press.

Arguments are scheduled before the Court of Appeals Thursday in the trespassing lawsuit against Phil Brown, who canoed through private land in the Adirondacks and wrote about it in 2009.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation and several environmental groups support Brown. The Property Rights Foundation of America and Empire State Forest Products Association support the landowners, Brandreth Park Association and Friends of Thayer Lake.

Lower courts held that a waterway is open to the public if it's navigable for commerce or recreation. The landowners argue this stream is too small to fall under common law navigation rights.

A court decision is expected soon.

From a life threatening head on car crash, to an amazing recovery, Sean Lounsbury, one of the bright you stars of Schroon's Adirondack Shakespeare Company thanks the greater community for all of their support;

From Sean: “As difficult as my recovery was last fall, I cannot imagine how many times that difficulty would be multiplied if the accident had not happened here in Adirondack Park, I thank the accident for exposing to me the warmth and unconditional love this community has, not just for me, but for humanity. Citizens of Adirondack Park, Tara, Patrick (Stiler), in my heart your love will be requited for eternity.”
