The party has started at Sticks and Stones with a fond goodbye to their Nacho Thursday nights. It's going out with a bang with a HUGE celebration for Cinco de May. Join them for ice cold Mexican beer, a magarita and some picante (or mild) Mexican comida.

Flanagan's, The Wolf and Witherbee's are also serving up margaritas, so what are you waiting for?  Can Mark Piper  -- at Witherbee's Open Mic night  -- be coerced into a verse or two of La Bamba?

And the new Schroon Lake Wine and Liquor Store has a very good selection of tequila, including Patron, our favorite.

Adirondack Mild Winter? You Bet! The Satellite Doesn’t Lie!

Sure, it was one of the warmest months of February, a lot of us can remember, but just how warm? Well, it was warm enough for the Schroon Lions Club to have the earliest Ice Out in its history, warm enough for to keep most folks off their sleds, and warm enoughnot to give half of you pay check to National Grid!.

From The Wash-Po:: The record warm satellite reading in February follows news that meteorological winter (encompassing December, January and February) was among the warmest on record in many parts of the northern contiguous United States and Alaska. The Weather Channel reported the following cities had their warmest and second-warmest winters on record:

Warmest: Albany, N.Y.; Allentown, Pa.; Barrow, Alaska; Burlington, Vt.; Caribou, Maine; Concord, N.H.; Minot, N.D.; and Providence, R.I.

Second-warmest: Anchorage; Boston; Buffalo; Flint, Mich.; Hartford, Conn.; Medford, Ore.; New York; and Wichita.

FOUND: Missing Dresser From PineCone Mercantile

UPDATE -- SATURDAY NIGHT: DRESSER HAS BEEN RETURNED.  From Lisa Hess Marks: Pine Cone Mercantile would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support for the missing dresser. Someone did come forward who thought it was a "free" item. OUR EARLIER REPORT:Lisa Hess Marks, owner of Pinecone Mercantile, needs your help. A four draw rustic style oak dresser (above)  -- waiting for customer pick up outside her store -- has been taken. This happened between 12 pm -  1 pm Saturday From Lisa:

 "Hello Schroon Lake Community. I would really appreciate your help. Pine Cone Mercantile placed an antique dresser outside the shop this morning... and it has "walked away". This dresser was on its way to a new customer's home... and it is truly unfortunate.

Please call me (Lisa) if you have any information 518 532-0220. All I want is the piece back, no questions asked".

The dresser was last seen outside Pinecone Mercantile, right in front of the Direct TV store.

We truly hope this was an honest mistake: someone thinking this piece was "up for grabs" on the sidewalk, and not something more sinister. This is not the Schroon Lake all of us who treasure this piece of paradise, have come to know and love.
