Sailing on Schroon: The Regatta That Matters!

Schroon Lake provided the perfect canvas  -- if not a lot of wind -- for a colorful fleet of Hobie Cats Saturday.

The Cats, from Fleet 204 from Oneida Lake Cicero, are out again on Sunday. Scores of folks watched the regatta from the shore and on the water, as the fleet set sail from the beach near the Boathouse and made two laps around the Word of Life Island.

By late afternoon some of the Cats needed help getting back to shore with almost no wind.

A Book Grows In Schroon

Schroon's own Anne Gregson and author Christa Ocker are two very special ladies. The talented duo has produced an awe inspiring tale in a new book, "Merry Christmas, My Friend,”.

And they’ll be signing copies this Saturday at the Adirondack General Store between 1 pm – 3 pm.

 From Amazon:

Christa Holder Ocker draws the inspiration for her stories from living a life filled with love, laughter, tears, and passion. Merry Christmas, My Friend, based on a true story, first appeared in the #1 New York Times Bestselling Book Chicken Soup for the Kid's Soul. Adapted for TV, Good Bye, My Friend starred the late Mickey Rooney. Throughout the years the story appeared in English and foreign language publications, inspiring youngsters to correspond from all over the world. For the first time Merry Christmas, My Friend is featured as a picture book, giving new life to this holiday classic. Anne Gregson, award winning artist, had a career of teaching art to children of all ages, from five to seventy-five, giving her a front row seat to seeing the world through the eyes of a child. She now spends her time in her art studio accompanied by her faithful dog Cooper, whose likeness found its way into these illustrations.

Besides signing the book, Annie will have available a few signed prints of her heart-warming illustrations.

There's gonna be a rumble in the Adirondack "Jungle" this weekend, and it's all for a good cause.

Fans of wrestling should head directly to Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park  at Paradise Pines (4035 Blue Ridge Road, North Hudson) where the Upstate New York Autism Alliance is hosting "P.A.C Wrestles for Autism: Back Woods Brawl 3.  It's on Saturday night from 5 to 8 pm. Beware of flying chairs and bad acting.

Organizers say P.A.C. wrestling is a not-for-profit group with a family show full of action, drama and comedy that pushes the limits of creativity with a goal of helping those in need.

Admission is by donation. Funds benefit Upstate NY Autism Awareness.  The event is open to the public as well as guests at the campground.

In addition to the wrestling event, there will be a 50/50 raffle, basket raffles and concession stands. Ten percent of all camping reservations that weekend will be donated to Upstate Autism Alliance.

The Upstate NY Autism Awareness was formed by dedicated parents of children experiencing the effects of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). UNYAA is a 100% volunteer organization that is located in Queensbury, providing support and resources to over 300 families and children in Northern New York.
