Meet ADK Author, Neal Burdick

Neal Burdick grew up in Plattsburgh. After graduating from St. Lawrence University, he went on to earn a master’s degree and Ph. D. from Case Western Reserve University. Since 1977, Neal has been a publications writer and editor, as well as a writing instructor, at St. Lawrence University.

He is also a freelance writer and editor, having published works in various genres. He is editor of the Adirondack Mountain Club’s magazine, Adirondac, and a frequent contributor to Adirondack Life and Adirondack Explorer.

Saying Goodbye To A North Country Legend

Tammy Whitty-Brown, the Executive Director of the Schroon Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, shares some sad news about the passing of her friend, Gordie Little. Gordie was the gregarious host of the Hometown Cable show..

From Tammy: "I just got word that the North Country has lost an icon and a dear friend...Gordie Little. My heart is so sad. Gordie always was so kind to me when I was the Battle of Plattsburgh Museum Manager and the Coordinator for the Adirondack Coast Cultural Alliance. Recently he spent nearly two hours with Jennifer St Pierre and I at the Penfield Museum doing a show for his Hometown Cable on our book Frontier Town Abandoned Theme Park Then and Now. When he saw me he gave me a huge bear hug! And teased me like old times. He did such an awesome interview with us about our book. I will forever miss him. RIP Gordie!"

Happy Father's Day

Sailing on Schroon: The Regatta That Matters!

Schroon Lake provided the perfect canvas  -- if not a lot of wind -- for a colorful fleet of Hobie Cats Saturday.

The Cats, from Fleet 204 from Oneida Lake Cicero, are out again on Sunday. Scores of folks watched the regatta from the shore and on the water, as the fleet set sail from the beach near the Boathouse and made two laps around the Word of Life Island.

By late afternoon some of the Cats needed help getting back to shore with almost no wind.
