Patrice Munsel, a name synonymous with Schroon Lake, the Seagle Music Colony and Opera has died. She was 91.
Pat, as she was known to many, made Schroon Lake her home after she retired from a career that was simply spectacular. She was a world famous Opera singer, had her own TV show, and a was a patron of the arts. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Pat's friends, near and far.
More from Pat's official obit from the New York Times:
Patrice Munsel, a coloratura soprano who as a teenager became one of the Metropolitan Opera’s youngest stars and later crossed over into television and musical theater, died on Aug. 4 at her home in Schroon Lake, N.Y. She was 91.
Her death was confirmed on Wednesday by her daughter Heidi Schuler Bright.
Ms. Munsel was 17 when, in March 1943, she won a Met contract and $1,000 after tying for first place in the eighth annual Metropolitan Auditions of the Air, a precursor to the Met’s National Council Auditions, a program to discover promising young opera singers and nurture their careers.

Some of the inventory of donated books delivered this Spring to The Friends Of Schroon Lake Library.
There’s a hidden gem in Schroon that once you discover it, you will be a repeat customer.
It’s the Friends Of Schroon Lake Library’s Used Book Store.
It’s tucked away in the basement of the Hudson Headwaters Health Building, just behind the Town Hall Building.
What makes it such a gem is the way volunteers have laid out the books. There’s a terrific kids section, where the little ones can sit and look at books, while you browse through the massive selection.
It’s well lit and airy and there are bargains galore!
Volunteers unload thousands of books in the Spring.
This year’s inventory got a boost with a donation of several thousand books from a school downstate.
The store is open every Saturday and Wednesday during the summer from 10 am – 2 pm.
