Be Very Careful On Schroon Lake This Weekend

With a top temperature predicted for Schroon to be a summer like 60 degrees Saturday, authorities are warning to be very careful, and very wary, about lake conditions this weekend. This comes at a time when NY State Forest Rangers attribute more than a dozen deaths – some, which fallen through thin ice.

Tammy Whitty-Brown, the executive director of the Schroon Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, spoke with the Raybrook DEC office on Tuesday, who told her they are highly recommending that all motorized vehicles --  including snowmobiles and ATVs  -- stay off all waterways in the Adirondacks.

“I heard some local guys discussing the lake conditions and they stated that the North Bay is starting open up at the mouth. They also stated that they can't imagine that the south end is faring well,” Tammy told us.

We know of several folks in town who keeping a watch full eye on lake conditions in the days ahead: organizers of the annual Schroon Lake Fish and Game Club annual Fishing Derby. The event, which draws hundreds of fisher folks to our fine hamlet, has never been cancelled. Meanwhile, it's all systems go for the Brant Lake Carnival.

2017 Brant Lake Winter Carnival: Non Stop Fun!

It's gonna be a hot time in cold Brant Lake this weekend (February 27!)

The Carnival will again have spectacular Out House Races in memory of Davin Berg (with prize money totally $1,000), A new Human Foosball Court, Broom Ball Tournaments, Free Skating & Children’s Sledding Hill, Ladies', Men's and Children's Fry Pan Toss Competition, Vintage Snowmobile Display, Food, Music, Fireworks at dusk and MORE!

Bring your own sleds & skates! Located at Jimbo’s on Beautiful Brant Lake, this daylong event is certain to have something for everyone. Anyone interested in registering an Out House ($25 registration fee), Broom Ball team or Vintage Snowmobile, please email cmead3@nycap.rr.com or call #494-3016.

Out House races tentatively beginning around 4:00 pm (must have houses on the lake by 1 PM). Fireworks are scheduled for dusk. Participate or spectate ~ either way, you’re guaranteed to have a fun time! All times and events subject to change due to weather conditions, and general mishaps.
