For those visitors who only know about Schroon in the summer, there’s a ton to do in the winter months. From skiing at either Gore or Whiteface, snowmobiling, our ski tow at the Golf Course and of course or ice fishing.
Today we are sharing Sam Leary’s video from this past January, where he catches a decent trout, in about 75 feet of water. Sam Shares with us his tips on how to catch lake trout:
I'm using a jigging spoon, small and heavy, to get down to the fish in 50-75 FOW quickly though, swimbaits, lipless crank baits and others work well too. Not sure if you have one, but a fish finder or flasher is helpful so that once you 'mark' a fish you can start to retrieve the lure to make the fish react (though this fish hit suddenly while jigging).
