One Of Your Last Chances For a Taste of Summer

The count down is on: Patti Mehm's Vine and Barley is closing for the season Columbus Day Weekend (10/7) but there's still time to get a taste of summer, and enjoy delicious wines, beers, crepes, light fare and their famous wine slushies.

Located on the 2nd floor of The Towne Store, you can enjoy wines from 10 local wineries and breweries, from balcony seating overlooking the village Main Street, or by the bar inside, or  at their big family table.

And this year’s big hits were their wine slushy tasting flights and new crepes.

From Patti:

“For lunch try our slow griddled savory Ham & Cheese Crepe, loaded with fresh ham and melted Swiss Cheese with Ale Mustard or for the sweet tooth in you, try our Apple Pie Crepe with Apples, Cinnamon, Brown Sugar Compote & Carmel Drizzle! 9 spectacular ADK flavors!"

Saturday Hours: 1pm - 8pm.

A huge hat tip to Shelby Davis, Mark Piper and his wife Sharon, all making a difference in a walk to educate our community about suicide prevention.

From Tammy Whitty-Brown:

"It is not to late to join in this amazing event being held tomorrow in Lake Placid... The North Country Out of The Darkness Community Walk ... A walk to fight suicide. It is being held on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the Olympic Speed Skating Oval, in Lake Placid, NY. Our very own Schroon Lake girl, Shelby Davis is helping coordinate this event along with her Lake Placid hosts. To register you can go to afsp,org/northcountry or just show up for the fun. I believe there has been a bit of a competition between our very own Schroon Lake Piper Family(Mark Piper and Sharon Piper) too, as they are both raising funds to help fight suicide and they will be walking to help raise awareness. So come out and join them or cheer them on. PS. If you love sweets... do not forget to check out their "Depressed Cake Shop" that has made the news the last few days".

This Sunday it’s gonna be Elaine from the award winning Nettle Meadow, who will be proudly serving samples of their Kunik, at a special Cheese Tasting Event at PDX. How great is this cheese? It was a Gold Medal winner at the 2016 World Cheese competition.

Elaine will also be bringing Peach and Habanero Fromage Frais. It’s a spreadable blend of cow and goat milk with peaches and habanero. There will also be their garlic and olive oil chevre, spreadable all goats milk cheese. All of the cheeses will be for sale.
