Schroon Laker Beth Black got quite the surprise this evening: an unexpected visitor, who dared to be a bear! From Beth's post on the Schroon Lake FB page:

At about 6:30pm tonight while I was making dinner, Allan & I noticed we had a visitor in our back yard! This is on Old Schroon Road in Schroon Lake. It stayed for at least 10 minutes and then walked off through the woods towards the snowmobile trail.

Get Ready for Schroon's Gigantic Arts and Crafts Fair July 21, 2018

Screen Shot 2018-07-15 at 6.55.45 AM.png

Artisans and crafters from all over the northeast will soon be bound for Schroon, for the BIG, 49th Annual Schroon Lake Arts and Crafts Fair.

The event  -- known for its high quality vendors -- usually attracts thousands, on the lookout for unique arts and crafts. (We know of several folks who do a bunch of early Christmas shopping). This year organizers are expecting 100 vendors.

So save the date: Saturday, July 21st, at 10am in the Town Park.

The fair, sponsored by the Schroon Lake Association, (SLA) those terrific folks dedicated to preserving our lake and river paradise, will be at their tent selling raffle tickets for a Hornbeck Canoe. Volunteers will be on hand to answer your questions about the lake.

All profits that the SLA derives from the Fair go toward their continuing efforts to protect and maintain the health and welfare of the lake: paying for a certified lake manager, funding scientific studies of the lake water and underwriting the fees involved in milfoil harvesting. There is also a Silent Auction Table, hosted by the Schroon Lake Association. It’s run by Chuck Harste with the help of SLA member volunteers, where you’ll find gifts donated by vendors and area merchants.

And there is gonna be something for everybody, with all crafts represented: jewelry, sculpture, woodwork, photography, painting, you name it, it will be at the fair.

Artists from as far away as Montreal, New York City and beyond will join locals from here and all over the North Country.

And for repeat visitors, if there’s a favorite artist you want to catch up with, chances are they will be in the same spot as in previous years. The Town of Schroon has prohibited dogs from entering onto Town property during public events, so please leave you pooches at home.

Hungry? The Fair has got you covered. The Schroon Lake Lions Club will be serving up hot dogs and burgers, and a  number of food vendors are also expected.
