The Gibson Brothers Plays Schroon Tuesday
/Bluegrass Royalty Leigh and Eric Gibson will once again take the stage in Schroon at the Boathouse next Tuesday.
The celebrated bluegrass duo — named back-to-back Entertainers of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association in 2012 and 2013 — will most likely sellout soon, so grab your tickets now, by clicking here.
We are big fans of their cover version of R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts,” from their most recent album Mockingbird, co-produced by Dave Ferguson and Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys.
The Brothers dig into the R.E.M. classic’s roots to enshrine the country-western framework hiding under the original’s prom-song sway, fashioning it into a good old-fashioned crying-in-the-haystack anthem.
The veterans of the bluegrass and country music scenes, recently spoke on covering such a classic: “It is a little intimidating to cover a song by an iconic band like R.E.M.,” Eric Gibson tells Paste. But the band has showed them plenty of support: Michael Stipe called the cover “incredible,” and Mike Mills said the Gibsons’ version “really re-focuses the song and lyric in a great way.”
The lyrics are what drew the Gibson Brothers to cover “Everybody Hurts.” “The message, I think, is very timely. So many are hurting,” adds Eric Gibson. “But there is always hope, and the lyrics and feel of this song drive that point home.”

NJ Registered!! Please CONTACT ME OR *SCHROON LAKE POLICE WITH ANY INFORMATION. I’ve had a house 25 years up here and to say this is a disappointment is an understatement. It was moored by the docks Pretty far out too! Tire marks of truck backed up to it at water’s edge. Looks like they took it without a trailer.”
