Keeping The Doors of Schroon's Post Office Open
The Essex County Board of Supervisors has unanimously passed a resolution in opposition to the closing of several area post offices – including Schroon Lake.
The supervisors voted in support of keeping the doors open at post offices in New Russia, North Hudson, Moriah Center, Schroon Lake and Keene Valley.
The vote followed a meeting where about 45 residents came to ETown to voice their concerns about the possible closure of the post office in New Russia. More than 3,700 post offices across the US are on a list for potential closure, including 40 in the greater Albany area.
Dan Cronin, manager of U.S. Postal Service Post Office Operations for the area from Glens Falls to Watertown told the meeting at the Elizabeth Town Hall that the New Russia post office loses about $20,000 a year, costs associated with employee health benefits.
Press Republican reporter Alvin Reine has a thorough wrap of the meeting which you can read here.
