Welcome Marathoners
Schroon Lake is delivering some spectacular weather this weekend for the 1200 runners expected to take part in the 15th Annual ADK Marathon Sunday. Welcome everyone – from the runners, to their families and the dozens of volunteers that make this event hum – to our slice of ADK Paradise.
And a huge shout out to two of our own will be running the Half Marathon – Debbie Philp and Mark Piper.
Sunday’s high is expected to top out at 77 degrees, almost perfect running weather. The weekend’s festivities in Schroon kick off Saturday with a 1 kilometer Fun Run for Kids ages 4-12. Also Saturday it’s the 15th running of the Adirondack Marathon Distance Festival 5 & 10K Races in Chestertown. The course starts at the Town Hall on Rt. 9 in Chestertown at 9:30 am. Both races are run on paved streets through the heart of the village.
Start time for Sunday’s Marathon is 9.00 am sharp, with hand cycles at 8:50 am. The course will be open until 3:00 pm. The Half Marathon will begin at 10:00 am at the 13.1 mile marker and will end at the Full Marathon Finish Line.
This year there will be Marathon Pace Bears, helping newbies pace themselves at various points throughout the race. Also returning are the Taiko Japenese Drummers, who will be playing in front of Glens Falls National Bank, Main Street, Schroon Lake from 11:30am -2pm.
