What a face! What wisdom must this old man possess? Schroon Laker Jim Bohleber captured this photo of what he calls "Schroon Lake's newest guardian"
Jim Writes: "The Old Man of The Tree sits at the end of the driveway of the Schroon Lake Bed and Breakfast, watching over all who enter the B & B, as well as the town. Maybe he can work some magic, and keep Hurricane Sandy away!"
Jim, we sure hope he can scare off Sandy. To see more of Jim's photos and learn the story behind the Old Man Of The Tree, after the jump.

Folks coming to our fair hamlet from the north along Route 9 maybe gobsmacked by the stunning piece of art outside the Schroon Lake Bed and Breakfast. It's the work of wood carver Glenn Durlacher, who spent a week painstakingly chain-sawing, cutting, chipping and grinding away at an old treet trunk outside Mark and Sharon Piper's award winning establishment.
Sharon had wanted "The Old Man" ever since she came across a similar carving in Bolton Landing.
"I tracked down Glenn online and he came up an met us," Sharon told Schroon Laker today.
The couple spent a lot of time discussing the various traits the old man should have. "It was as if I was working with a poice sketch artist," she said with a laugh. "Should his eyes be open or closed, how big should the iris be?".
Sharon said Glenn spent a lot of time staring at the tree before he even made a mark on it. Sharon and Mark are over the moon with the results.
"It's almost like the spirit was in the tree and Glen just uncovered it."
The couple are inviting Schroon Lakers to submit names for the Old Man via their Facebook Page or you can leave it in our comments section below and we will pass them on.
On Sunday, November 11th, the B & B will host a meet the artist reception, with the inn's famous cider and Mark's baked goods.
