Schroon Lake’s Spectacular Christmas Celebration

Santa at The Strand Theatre, Schroon Lake, Christmas 2011

Organizers of Schroon Lake’s 26th traditional Annual Olde Tyme Christmas have outdone themselves with an entirely retooled and revamped celebration.

Organizers have produced a wide and varied range of activities adding a petting zoo, several live music events and multiple craft activities for kids to the classic daylong event on Saturday, December 8th!

Headlining -- as always -- will be the arrival of Santa on a Fire Truck at The Strand, following the traditional tree lighting ceremony and live Nativity walk to Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

“We are really pleased with this year’s events,” one oof the organizers, Patti Mehm told Schroon Laker. “Everyone came together to make this work. It’s great to see so many people volunteer their time and efforts”.

“This is an important event for Schroon and it’s nice that we can grow it after a few lean years.”

The day kicks off at 10am with a Christmas Bazaar at the Community Church, co-sponsored by the congregations of the Community Church and St. Andrews Episcopal. A luncheon will be available from 11 am.

Also at 10 am tickets go on sale for the Adirondack Basket raffle at the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce Office, with all proceeds benefiting local charities and families.

At 5.30 pm it’s the lighting of the tree near the Fountain in the Town Park, The Nativity Walk and reading of the scriptures at Our Lady of Lourdes followed by the lighting of the Memory Tree at the Senior Center, honoring all of those who have passed this year.

From 6pm to 7.30 pm Hayfield Farm hosts a petting zoo in the parking lot of the Grand Union.

Also beginning at 6 pm is a series of ongoing activities on main Street.

Cocoa, Cookies and Coloring at the Senior Center, Christmas Cookie and Cupcake Decorating at Mr. P’s Mountain Smokehouse, Christmas ornament decorating at the Glens Falls Bank and Children’s Crafts at The Towne Store.

There are plenty of high notes on the musical scene. The Schroon Lake Central School’s 5th and 6th Grade band will perform at the Community Church between 6:15 and 6:45. The Boat House Gang will be at the Community Church and at Joanie’s Goodies and Strolling Carolers from Mountain Lake Services will be up and down Main Street.

There will be a special performance by the Adirondack Gospel Trio at the Towne Store between 6 pm and 8pm.
