Lake and Boating News: The May Edition
Flooding at Schroon Lake Marina: April, 2011
Thanks to an incredibly mild winter – and floodless Spring – the lake is already seeing plenty of activity early in the season.
Over the last couple of weeks, home owners and the lads from Schroon Lake Marina have been busy, installing new and existing docks around the lake. The Town’s floating docks have been repaired and installed ready for the first wave of boaters.
We’ve also spotted a couple of swim platforms already out. That’s a far cry from this time last year when near record water levels caused lake-wide flooding and made those tasks impossible.
Over at the Marina, Craig Kennedy and his crew haveall of their floating docks in place and have just completed a major renovation to their boat ramp, moving a massive concrete slab into place extending the ramp’s reach into the creek.
And as we reported earlier this month, the boat ramp at the south end of the lake in Horicon is back in service after a major face lift from the DEC.
Boart Party
Applications are now being accepted for the both the boat parade and non-motorized water craft chain across the lake event during Schroon’s Opening Weekend over the Memorial Day Holiday. And organizer Shelby Davis is hoping that boaters will get into the holiday festive mood by dressing up their boats.
“It would be awesome if we could get a couple of boats decorated like pirate ships out there on the lake,” Shelby recently told Schroon Laker.
There will also be a blessing of the fleet by local clergy. Will you be going to the Blessing of The Boats? Tell us in comments.
