Schroon Lake Opening Weekend A Big Success
Lions Club Garage Sale & Auction held during 2012 Schroon Lake Opening Weekend
The first inaugural “Opening Weekend” over the Memorial Day Holiday was a huge success, say organizers, who have announced the event will be back next year.
“We really want to make this an annual event and based on the success and feedback we got after last weekend we have started planning for next year,” organizer Shelby Davis told Schroon Laker today.
The Summer Expo, town wide garage sales, restaurant menu specials and music events attracted a lot of traffic to Schroon, Shelby said.
Some restaurants and stores reported a big uptick in year over year sales, according to an unscientific poll by Schroon Laker.
“This was definitely a boost for the local economy. We’ve heard from several businesses which had ‘record’ weekend sales.”
The organizing committee will continue to fine tune the event after receiving feedback from area businesses and attendees.
One change event organizers are considering is moving the “Blessing of Fleet” to a weekend in June, possibly Father’s Day.
Another change is spreading out the Summer Expo and Music events more evenly over both Saturday and Sunday.
“We might opt for having different music options for Sunday, which could include Gospel Singers and choirs,” Shelby said.
The organizing committee would also like to see more summer and lake themed vendors at the Expo.
Ideas being considered for next year include a tethered hot air balloon ride, a float plane, parasailing and a drunk goggles exhibit by State Police.
