It’s been an incredible summer (for the most part weather-wise) and our lake hasn’t looked finer.

As avid readers of Schroonlaker.com know – we often praise the group efforts of our three local lake associations. Save the date for next Friday  -- August 9 – when the Schroon Lake Association’s Annual Membership meeting will feature presentations on water quality and invasive species, at The Boathouse Theatre on Dock Street at 8pm.

From an SLA Pres Release:

SLA President Mark Granger said: “We will have representatives from AIM, Warren County Soil and Water and Adirondack Ecologists making presentations on milfoil and other invasives and on the water quality of the Schroon Lake Watershed.” Jim Lieberum, head of Warren County Soil and Water will do an update on the $300,000 state grant that they are about to receive to re- channel storm water discharge. “Storm water overflow in town and on our roads is a major contributor to excess salt and phosphates in out watershed.” said SLA Lake Manager Steve LaMere.

The meeting will also feature a presentation on the state of the Town of Schroon by Town Supervisor Michael Marnell and election of officers and Board Members of the SLA.

"The battle over invasives and water quality is as big a battle as was the fight over the attempted elimination of Schroon and Paradox Lakes which founded our organization 102 years ago” remarked Roger Friedman SLA Vice President and Schroon Town Board Member.

“Our lakes are critical to our community and it takes a Community effort to protect them.” said Granger. “That is why we have invited ESSLA and the Paradox Lake Association members to attend. We are all in this together! We are working together to make a difference here.” The Supervisors of all three towns in the Schroon Lake Watershed- Schroon, Horicon and Chester- have also been invited.
