Slowly Winning The Invasives War

The fight against Schroon Lake’s invasive Eurasian milfoil continues, and while the war is far from over, huge progress was made this summer. Divers from Aquatic Invasive Management (AIM), the company used by The East Shore Schroon Lake Association, (ESSLA) harvested a whopping 2146.75 pounds of Eurasian Milfoil -- almost tripling past year’s haul of 875 pounds, according to ESSLA's Gretchen Marcell.
The Schroon Lake Association, (SLA), which doesn’t report the number of pounds it gets from the company it uses -- Adirondack Ecologists, LLC, (AE) -- also had “very good year” removing invasives, President Mark Grainger recently told Schroon Laker.
From Gretchen Marcell:
A hearty thank you to AIM for all the effort expended on Schroon Lake's behalf, to all the Scouts and Super Scouts who greatly facilitated the harvest, to Bill McGhie for his willingness to collect the harvest and dispose of it, to our team of Town Supervisors for funding this very important yearly harvest, and to Jim Lieberum and Bob Bombard from WCSWCD for their support with Bob's swim-over.
AIM removed a total of 87.38 bags of EWM and CLPW plus innumerable scattered plants from the lake this year for a total of 2146.75 pounds; last year's combined effort produced 56 bags and a reported total of 875 pounds (AE did not report poundage). Please pat yourselves all on the back!!!
