A Big Week For Schroon

Sledders at Sticks and Stones

The local economy and area businesses are set to get a boost this weekend with the Martin Luther King Holiday crowds. The snow shoeing and ice fishing season is well underway and  Gore has plenty of the white stuff. Meanwhile local snowmobilers are hoping (and praying)  that the weather and snow conditions improve – quickly.

There are now two restaurants with direct access to Schroon’s main snowmobile trail at the south end of town --  Witherbee’s and new comer Sticks and Stones --  just follow their signs.

Sticks and Stones are also offering sledders free parking for their trailers.

There will some fine entertainment and good eats to be had, as Schroon celebrates the three day weekend.

The weekend kicks off early, on Thursday, when Mark Piper hosts the weekly Open Mic at Witherbee’s Carriage House. It’s the best Open Mic in the North Country and if you haven’t experienced it – you are missing out.

At Sticks and Stones this Saturday, co-owners Gary and Steve present the dynamic jazz duo of Ed Plew and Paul Couch.

From Steve: “Ed will delight with his resonating vocal skills as heard on the Gary Stevens show and his recorded tracks on Flaire X Records.

“Paul is the master of the saxophone, clarinet, and flute. He has toured with the Bobby Vinton Orchestra and opened for Louis Prima in Las Vegas”.

Over at the Timberwolf  Pub it’s their regular Open Mic night -- with a twist. Organizer Vincent Cangelosi Haley says to expect a night with “comic relief and shananagans”.

“All acts and musicians are welcome and the night’s special guest will be Rustin Whipple.”

And mark your calendars for the following weekend, January 25. Witherbee’s present Mike Packard at 7:00 pm.

And over at the Black Bear Restaurant in Pottersville, it’s gonna be one big dance party. From the Black Bear: "Hey ladies!!! We are going to have a Dance Night with DJ Phil playing!!! the rump-shaking songs you love! Bring your husbands and burn some calories with us! At 8 pm.
