The Passing Of A True Schroon Lake Legend

George Edelman on July 4, 2012

George Edelman, the former owner of the iconic Camp Idlywold, who spent his golden years between his homes in Schroon Lake and Pompano Beach, has passed away.

He was 93-years-old.

A memorial service was held on Sunday, May 18 at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel at 1076 Madison Ave at 81st Streets in New York City.

George was a life-long educator and  camp Director at Camp Idlywold, where many campers knew him as “the Bear.” He and his late wife Beatrice purchased the camp in June, 1961.

He mentored and guided countless campers, many who who later became Titans of Industry, all over the world, from Israel to the Netherlands,

He was a passionate Schroon Laker who will be remembered by many in recent years for his love of tennis, which he played daily in the summer on a court near his home, where Camp Idlywold once stood. It is now a privately owned housing development known as the Adirondack Pointe Association.

George was an active member of the Seagle Music Colony. He only recently sold his boat, which he loved to cruise on Schroon Lake. Our condolences go out to George's many family members and friends.
