The Folks Who Keep the Music Playing

Next Sunday Schroon plays host for the 25th time to the annual Adirondack Folk Festival in the Town Park. The event is hosted by the Schroon Lake Arts Council and has become a destination event in the Adirondacks.

But did you know the event has direct ties to  folk legend Pete Seeger and Hollywood star Alan Arkin.?  And it’s all because of one Schroon Laker: Flora Wilson Whitty.

We discovered these gems from Arts Council President Jack Osbourne, who passed onto us an amazing story  about the  history of the fest, written by by Benjamin Pomerance of the Lake Champlain Weekly. Dan Berggren and Darlene Gregson also get special mentions for their efforts in bringing the festival to life!

You can read the full story, kindly reprinted with permission, in our 2014 Music And Arts Scene section, or download the story here as it appears in the Lake Champlain Weekly.
