Stunning, Amazing, Spectacular – three words that sum up what a  day Sunday’s ADK Marathon was, from the perspective of race officials, runners, volunteers and spectators.

Both locals and second home owners -- from towns in both Essex and Warren Counties -- gave their best as volunteers. All of the runners did themselves proud—and race officials say it was one the best events ever – despite a HOT 80 degrees at the peak of the race.

Once again there were smiles everywhere – from the runners, crowds at the finish line and home-owners who came out in droves to cheer the runners on.

Schroon Lake’s own Clare Veverka, 13, was the first Schroon Laker to cross the finish line, coming in third in the women’s Half Marathon, with a time of  1:37:56. Congrats Clare!

Bryan Morseman, of  Bath, a veteran of 20 races, set a course record with a time of 2:26:59 to win Sunday’s race.  The previous record was set by David Herr in 2009 at 2:35:38.

The winner of the women’s marathon was Kyle Ann Inda of Naples.

“Kyle Ann Inda of Naples, was opposite of Morseman, having pulled out a win in her first marathon largely on training advice provided by the Internet.

“I just Internet searched a training plan and was dedicated to that,” Inda said. “I had a little bit of (a strategy), but I just got out here and tried to have fun with it.

“The course is beautiful, I loved the hills. It’s really hilly where I live, so I was used to hills. I got through that and felt good, then just tried to survive and finish.”

In the half marathon, Paul Allison came from Jericho, Vermont, to win the men’s race in front of family and friends that maintain local ties”
