Snow, Sledding and Spaghetti
Those extra few inches of the white stuff Schroon recently received will be great for area winter sports lovers this weekend.
And it's a special bonus for sledders from our area. This Saturday night the Schroon North Hudson Snowmobile Club will be holding a fundraiser at the Fish and Game Club.
The sledding season got off to cracking start this past November, when we got a really good dump, and the club's groomers hit the trails quickly, ensuring a good packed surface for a couple of months of sledding --even without additional snow.
The fundraiser is a to help off set costs for groomer maintanence and fuel.
But there's a very "social aspect" to the event, says New Club President Leanna Welch.
"We want the dinner to be a chance for members, new and old, to get to know each other," Leanna told Schroon Laker.
"There are some members of the club that don't know each other so it's going to be a meet and greet and a chance for folks to catch up," Leanna said.
Leanna, just a few months into her new term as president, says she wants to grow the club membership as well as keeping everybody happy.
"My basic goal is to keep everyone sledding, have great snow, make everyone happy and see all of us work together as one big community. We have a great trail system here now. Our trials connect with North Hudson and through to Ti and Minerva, Now with new trails open in Scaroon Manor, we can hook up with the North Warren Trailblazers".
Even if you are not a member of the snowmobile club, Leanna says tomorrow's fundraiser is "open to all."
"We do a pretty good take-out business, and a lot of locals come and join us. It's great for the community."
The dinner is from 4pm to 7pm. $10 for adults and $6 for kids 10 and under. Takeout is available.
