Dedicated Schroon Lake “postcard hunters” went wild this week  when David Peterson, who runs the public Schroon Lake Facebook page, uncovered the above gem.

It is from the Boston Library Print collection, and dates back to 1875. There has been a discussion about what the scene depicts: some say it looks like the white two story red roofed building is the Leland House. But as others have pointed out, there is no mountain (or mountain range) directly behind where the Leland House once proudly stood.

The Leland House  -- imagined today  -- would be where the town basketballand tennis courts are located.
