Schroon’s Annual Adirondack Folk Music Festival
The Friends Union Band, one of the acts at this Sunday's event!
One of the premiere music events of the summer season celebrates its 27th anniversary Sunday. And the event – proudly sponsored by the Schroon Lake Arts Council – is bigger and better than ever.
The concert features a who’s who of top line performers: Jamcrackers, Roy Hurd and Skip Smithson, Friends Union Band, Runaway Home and The Nields. The show is MC’d by Rod Driscoll.
This event -- at the Schroon lake Town Park -- has become a destination event for folk music lovers who come from all over the east coast, according to Schroon Lake Arts Council President Jack Osbourne.
Few folks know the history of the event -- and its direct ties to folk legend Pete Seeger and Hollywood star Alan Arkin. And it’s all because of one Schroon Laker: Flora Wilson Whitty.
We discovered these gems a couple of years back when Jack passed onto us an amazing story about the festival's roots, written by by Benjamin Pomerance of the Lake Champlain Weekly.
Locals Dan Berggren and Darlene Gregson also get special mentions for their efforts in bringing the festival to life!
