Giddy Up, Cowboys and Gals!
The Wild West returns to Schroon Saturday, with the much anticipated Frontier Festival. There’ll be Square Dancing, juggling and a wild west “Justice Show” by the Word of Life Cowboys.
Organizers of the event have just announced a VENUE CHANGE. Due to inclement weather, the Festival will be held at the Schroon Lake Central School, not Dock Street. The Big Show kicks off at 12 noon and is scheduled to run until 3 pm.
The western themed spectacular is part of Schroon’s Big Read, funded by an $8,500 grant from the NEA.
The goal of the Big Read is to get everyone in the community to read the same book. The school chose “True Grit,” the 1968 novel by Charles Portis. It’s a story detailing a young woman’s quest to avenge the murder of her father. The book was integrated into the school’s curriculum, requiring students to complete classroom assignments based on its themes. The bok was used in a recent talk by Adirondack Inn owner John Fear, about life lessons and how the behavior of an individual can impact many.
“Everything is free. Put on your cowboy hat and come on out on Saturday and join this celebration of reading the true Grit way!,” says Stephen Gratto, SLCS Superintendent.
