During the pandemic the couple undertook the huge project of moving many of the files from the Schroon Lake North Hudson Historical Society to a digital database. to see some of Wayne’s additional skills as a world class model builder and craftsman, check out the hand made model of the Steamer Evelyn at the historical society’s museum,

Here’s the announcement from Laura and Wayne’s Family.

“Laura (Hull) and Wayne Dewey, Schroon Lake, NY are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on September 4th, 2021. The Deweys met at Lowes Theater in Pittsford, NY. Laura worked at the candy counter, and Wayne was an usher. A sweet exchange of a chocolate valentine candy heart broke the ice for a first date in February of 1968. After graduating high school – Laura from Fairport, and Wayne from Pittsford – the couple attended Oswego University together. They were married in their junior year, September 4th 1971, by the late Dr. Reverend Keith M. Dewey (father of the groom) in Fairport United Methodist Church, Fairport, N.Y.

After retiring from three decades as educators – Wayne teaching Industrial Arts and Laura teaching Spanish – The Deweys relocated from South Canisteo to the Adirondack region of New York State to build their dream retirement home. They rekindled their passion for hiking that began when they were first married in the 1970s. They completed the Adirondack 46ers hiking challenge, Fire Tower hiking challenge, The Saranac Six and the Chester Winter Challenge. They are very active in their community, volunteering their time at the Schroon Lake Public Library, as docents at the Schroon Lake Historical Society, and serving as members of the Lions Club. Wayne is also a Schroon Lake volunteer firefighter.

The couple has three daughters: Marcy Mahoney and her husband, Bryan, of Los Angeles, CA, Kelly Walsh and her husband, Evan, of Middleton, MA, and Patricia Frangella and her husband, David, of Factoryville, PA. They have four grandchildren: Owen James, Natalie Laura, and Harrison Dean of MA, and Laura Annalise of PA. The Deweys plan to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a private family hike and a mountaintop vow renewal in their beloved Adirondack Mountains”.
