Breaking News Sunday: Schroon Lake Central School Shuts Down
From Stephen Gratto, Superintendent
School Dismissed for Students from March 16 - April 19
Dear Parents and Students,
Today I participated in a meeting with the other 15 Superintendents in our BOCES along with the Director of the Essex County Health Department, the Director of the Clinton County Health Department, and an infectious disease specialist from the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital.
After significant discussion, I can tell you that it is the unanimous decision of the 16 Superintendents and our two health departments that we have a school dismissal for all students in the 16 districts, including Schroon Lake Central School, until at least April 20th. Our district, in cooperation with the public health department, will make future decisions on instruction after April 20th and we will keep you updated as time goes on.
It is important that these extraordinary measures are taken in an effort to be proactive. There are currently no confirmed cases of the Coronavirus in Warren, Essex, or Clinton Counties.
Tomorrow will serve as a staff development day for all district staff. They will use this time to fine tune their plans for delivering instruction remotely until at least April 20th. Teachers will be reaching out to parents and students soon with information about how instruction will be provided.
Attached to this e-mail you will find a letter written jointly by the 16 CVES Superintendents that will give you additional information, as well as an idea of how difficult this decision was. We realize the tremendous burden that this situation will place on parents, students, community members, and local businesses. We will do all we can to assist you during these difficult times.
Here are a few key points to keep in mind:
1. Students should not report to school tomorrow through at least April 19th.
2. All school events, including the school play and spring sports will be suspended at least until April 19th.
3. Remote instruction will begin on March 16 and will continue through at least April 19th. Students are responsible, with the help of their parents, to keep up with their school work to the best of their abilities. Students are not on vacation.
4. The school building is not closed. If students need to pick up something from their lockers or if they need to pick up medicine from the nurse's office, they should call the main office in advance (518-532-7164) to set up a time when they can come to school.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding Please look for additional updates in the near future.
Regards,
Stephen Gratto
