Friday June 6

Tonight, there's a reception at Anthony Ruiz's Giant  Mountain Studio,  featuring works from local and regional artists, including Annie Gregson, Barry Gregson, Larry Vanderburgh and Jonathan Sweet. 6pm - 8 pm.

At Our Lady Of Lourdes there's the Champlain Chorale and Strings concert at with delicious refreshments provided by OLL.

There’s a very cool (and free) event tonight in Chestertown at the Municipal Center Theater on Main Street. It's  a real time Webcast of Jazz from Lincoln Center preceded by a LIVE concert of experimental jazz rock by CLAY MAN, a fabulous 5 piece group from Burlington Vermont. The festivities start at 7pm.

Stone Rose rocks Witherbee's tonight starting at 7pm.

There’s a plant and veggie sale at the Community Garden, starting at  10am. All proceeds go towards buying garden equipment and supplies.

Greg and Dee Beckler are hosting their annual FREE admission event to The Natural Caves and Stone Bridge in Pottersville. It runs from 9 am to 5pm for residents of Warren, Essex and Washington Counties both Saturday and Sunday. (Just show valid photo ID).

Railroads On Parade are now officially open for the season, with two new features: the Tiny World of Z display, and a self-guided cell phone tour of the museum, hosted by Barbara Dunham, one of the happiest people we know! Current hours:  Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 5 pm through June 22. On the 23rd they'll be open for  the season, 7 days a week.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: 2014

Today (Friday) is the official opening of the brand new and expanded Schroon Lake Marina retail store. Gone is the tiny space with a few items -- that's been replaced by an expansive sun filled room featuring just about every watersport and boating need you can image. Also co-owner Craig Kennedy has in stock some amazing new pontoon boats!

 

The weekend kicks off with Paradox Brewery opening the doors to their tasting Friday 11-7, Saturday 11-6, Sunday 12-4, and Monday 11-6!

Tonight (Friday)  --  just across the street from the Brewery --   is the 2nd performance of the Mountainside Christian Academy’s  “Meet Me in St. Louis” at 7:00 pm in the school gym.  Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for children ages 3-12, and free for children 2 and under.  There’s a concession stand selling root beer floats and baked goods.

Over at Sticks & Stones  -- Schroon’s newest restaurant, which is celebrating its first birthday – the doors are open at  11:30 am every day. S&S features both indoor and out-door dining where your pooch is always welcome!

Stressed out after a long week at work?  Head on over to Schroon Lake Massage and Wellness Center for their Memorial day special: a 25% discount off a 60 minute massage.  Call 351-0048 to make your appointment.

Also tonight (Friday)  Willie Playmore will get you rocking at Witherbee’s Carriage House. 7pm. And this weekend Mr. P’s Mountain Smokehouse kicks off their early summer hours and is now open every weekend!  (Including Memorial Day from 11.30 am – 3 pm)

Chris and Shelby are introducing Family specials – for 4 or 8 people: The special features pulled pork or chicken, pork spare ribs, Cole slaw or potato salad, corn bread. Dine in, or take-away. On Saturday it’s the Annual Lion’s Club Garage Sale and Gift Raffle at the Boat House. The garage sale continues into Sunday. The event kicks off at 9am each day!

The walk in craft at the Schroon lake Library on Saturday is making a pinwheel. From 11 am - 1.30 pm. FREE!. Then head on over to the half priced book sale in the basement of there Hudson Headwaters building and pick up a few good reads. 10 am - 3pm.

True North Yoga hosts Free Community Yoga at 11:00 am. There’s no registration required and yoga mats are available for use at the studio.

The Schroon Lake Association will have a booth at the edge of the Town Hall parking lot Saturday and Sunday from 1 pm to 4 pm where you can learn about their efforts to combat invasive species and volunteer opportunities. If you are not a member --   make this the day you sign up!.

On Saturday night the Strand Theater presents guitarist extraordinaire Bill Zito in Concert at 7:30pm. Bill Zito is world renown for his ability to play a variety of musical styles including Dowland, Britten, Guiliani, Villa-Lobos, Rodrigo, and Albeniz.

Sunday kicks off with the annual Boy Scout Pan Cake Breakfast  at the Fish and Game Club. It’s a great cause and the pancakes are always yummy.

Also on Sunday The Schroon Lake EMS will be celebrating National EMS Week, with the Free blood pressure checks, and a boo boo bear so kids can practice their first aid skills on the hill near the band stand.

The Schroon Lake Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting a bake sale from 11 am to 3 pm next to the EMS squad.  Learn more about how you can support these terrific organizations.

This weekend also marks Patti and Bob Mehm’s 10th Anniversary of owning The Towne Store. And they are celebrating by throwing a party for customers on Sunday from 4 pm – 6 pm. Swing by for cake, snacks, door prizes, sales and more.  It is also the Seasonal Opening of the Art Gallery, which you can read more about here.

On Monday honor our veterans by attending a local memorial service.

We hear from Peter Johnson, Commander, American Legion Post 982,that Schroon's annual Veteran’s Ceremony is at 10:00 am at the Veteran’s Memorial in the Town Park. A service in North Hudson starts at 11:00 am at the Town Hall.
