Super Dave Insull and Mike Ryan at the Coummity Church July 4th barbecue

Early every 4th of July morning, the sweet smell of barbecued chicken wafts down Main Street. A quick look up and you’ll puffs of smoke coming from behind the Community Church. Take a peek and you’ll see the guardians of the Annual 4th BBQ Chicken lunch, stoking the coals and taking care of some scrumptious birds on the grill.

And what a deal: -- ½ a mouth watering chicken, coleslaw, baked beans, a roll and a brownie with your choice of a drink. You can eat in at the church hall or get a take away box. All proceeds go to support the Church’s various activities.

In prior years this event often sold out before 11am. But this year the master chefs have a plan in place to double the output of the birds, according to chef Mike Ryan.

“This year we have borrowed grills from the Fish and Game Club, who kindly donated them to us for the day,” Mike told us recently.

“So rest assured, they’ll be plenty of chicken for everybody".

Over at the North Woods Bread Co, Edward and Lisa are offering a special July 4th menu. From Lisa:

"If you need a hand with baking, check out North Woods Bread Co's "Special Order" menu! We're taking orders thru Sunday 5pm... for pick-up Tuesday morning. Have a special request? Give us a call and we'll try to help!"
