A Chili Cook Off and An Out House Race: Connected Not In The Way You Think

It’s gonna be a busy day Saturday, February 21st with two local events: The 4th Schroon Lake Chili Cook-Off and the Annual Brant Lake Winterfest. The cook-off is open to any area business, social organization, clubs, EMS, Fire Departments, churches, service organizations and home cooks.

Organizer Shelby Davis, from Mr. P's Mountain Smokehouse and Shelby's Kitchen Therapy, says early registration for cooks is  $20. After January 21, it’s $30. Chili registration deadline is February 13. The day kicks off at 111.30am. Trophies are presented for Best Meaty Chili, Best Veggie Chili, Best Chili by Fire/Rescue Squad and People's Choice Trophy. Trophy presentations at 1:15 pm. Check out all of the details here. www.schroonlakechilicookoff.org.

For this year’s Brant Lake Winterfest, more than  $1,000 has been raised to date for everyone’s favorite event: Out House Races. All area business are invited to enter!

More about the Winterfest from the Tri-Lake Business Alliance:

The Downhill Derby is scheduled for February 14th and we’d like to have more events throughout the week (it’s winter-break vacation week) so anyone with ideas let us know. We need more teams for Snow Shoe Softball and the Broom Ball Tournaments so any groups interested please let us know! In addition to the Fry Pan Toss, Curling, Out House Races, Children’s sledding  hill and Ice Bowling we’ll also be having an Icicle Contest (bring  your longest icicle!) with Adult & Children winners.

Also new this year is a competition amongst local business and/or groups to get the most votes for their nominated King & Queen. $1 a vote and the most votes win bragging rights and a crown  -- so vote for your favorite King & Queen at local establishments and/or organizations!

Winter 2015: Celebrate!!!

Hey, if its cold outside, our philosophy is that you may as well embrace it. And this weekend’s ADK Winterfest  at the Adirondack Mountain Club’s Adirondack Loj property, has a mountain o' winter fun!

Highlights include various guided hikes  -- including two up to Mt Joe,  as well as guided hike to Phelps. Don’t have the right gear? Then you can borrow some microspikes.

Heart Lake is primed for ice skating and there is a Backcountry Safety and Avalanche Preparation talk. Tony Goodwin is back for a second year leading a beginner cross-country ski clinic. There’s Telemark Lessons with ADK staff, a Curling Clinic a intro to Nordic Skating with Human Power Planet Earth, a  Mommy/Daddy and Me introductory cross-country skiing  lesson with Cascade XC Ski Center Staff, and Orienteering with Jacques Riberdy, past advisor of Canadian NATO team.

There will be buffet dinner from 5-7 under the tent as well as live music with “Annie in the Water.”
