The more time we get to know the folks that call Schroon Lake “home”, the more we are gobsmacked with the incredible pool of talent that reside here, both full and part time.

In this small upstate town, there are many with extraordinary skills, complimenting those who have had awesome careers, before beginning their second acts here.

And you will get the chance to meet some of these people in a just launched program, “Continuing Education”, proudly presented by the Schroon Lake Central School.

Starting this week the program, which runs through March, has an incredible array of courses that you can participate in to learn a new skill, hobby and improve your life.

The courses include: Basic Household Electricity, Woodworking, a Community Archery League,  a Community Chorus,  Learn Zumba, Martial Arts/Self Defense, a NYS Boating Safety Course and a Lecture Series, with guest speakers.

Phew!

The program is the brainchild of the Schroon Lake School Board, with the full backing of Superintendent Stephen Gratto.

Board member Sue Repko, one of the chief organizers, could hardly contain her excitement when Schroon Laker caught up with her recently.

“These programs are designed to bring the community together, utilizing the facilities of the Schroon Lake Central School,” Sue told us.

“It’s a way to use our school and some of its resources. And it’s a great way for the community to participate in activities that will enhance their lives.”

And be on the lookout for the date when I will be giving a presentation, about my three decade long career as a journalist, TV producer and one of my proudest achievements, being a Schroon Laker.

Pick up a registration form at the school, library, or Chamber. For more information call the school at (518) 532-7164.
