Seagle’s Sound of Music for Schroon
/We are blessed that one of the most precious artistic gems in all 50 states, the Seagle Music Colony, calls Schroon Lake home. This year the Colony celebrates its 100th year as the country’s preeminent training school for Opera Singers, whose graduates grace the world stages of numerous opera companies.
And to celebrate 100 years here in our hamlet, the Colony will open its summer 2015 season with a one-of-a-kind Community Concert, in advance of its regular season of productions.
General Director Tony Kostecki says the concert will feature a ‘greatest hits’ revue program from the Colony’s last 100 years, with songs, arias, duets and ensembles from many beloved operas and musicals including The Sound of Music, West Side Story, Oklahoma, The Phantom of the Opera, The Barber of Seville, Carmen and more.
The concert will be given in honor of Pete and Dodie Seagle, long-time stewards of the organization, and a couple that has been intimately involved in the Schroon Lake community for decades.
From General Director, Tony Kostecki: “We really wanted to start off our centennial summer with a concert that will engage Schroon Lake’s and the surrounding region’s year-round residents, and thank them for hosting us for the past 100 years.
"Having the concert at the Schroon Lake School, which is the heart of the year-round community, is a key to making this successful”
So save the date: Saturday, June 6th at 7:30 pm. Tickets are a bargain $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 12 and under.
“So hopefully that will allow anyone who wants to help us celebrate join in the start of our historic season.”
Performing in the concert are five returning Seagle Music Colony singers, Margaret Newcomb, soprano, Mary Beth Nelson, mezzo-soprano, Josh Eflin, tenor, Michael Miller, baritone and Mason Jarboe, bass-baritone.
Seagle Music Colony faculty member Matthew Stephens will accompany the performers on piano. Long-time Colony Director of Productions and former alum Richard Kagey will direct the production.
Tickets are available by calling 518-532-7875, at the Seagle Music Colony downtown Schroon Lake office at 1094 US Route 9, at the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce at 1075 US Route 9 in Schroon Lake, and will be available at the door assuming the concert is not sold out in advance. Reps at many local churches will also have a limited number of tickets available.
