More Gore Love

As readers of Schroon Laker.com know, we are not shy about expressing our love for the mountain closest to Schroon. So we were happy to hear that we are not alone. A skiers website has just named Gore as one of the 5 most under rated resorts in North America!

"Gore is a fantastic state run ski area in the Adirondack mountains of New York. You might hear “state run resort” and think it’s some budget ski area with no desirable amenities such as high-speed quads, gondolas or snowmaking but you would be dead wrong. Gore might not have a 5 star lodge at it’s base but the ski experience is on par with any of the high price ski resorts in the east. Recent terrain expansions have opened up vast amounts of prime east coast glades making this gem shine even brighter".

Meanwhile, Mother Nature will play a large role in determining just how long Gore will be open for Spring skiing. Check their website daily to see what's happening. And don't forget, the sale of their bargain basement priced season passes ends on April 25th.

Summer Jobs in Schroon: Freshen Up That Resume

IMG_0176.jpg

The powerhouse that is Shelby Davis wears many hats. From creating Schroon's first ever "Opening Weekend", the annual Chili Cook-Off, to whipping up some of the finest gluten free treats north of Manhattan, to serving on Schroon's Chamber of Commerce, there's not much Shelby can't conquer.

So we are happy to let you know that Shelby goes by another name, "The Fairy Job Mother" and boy, does she have a gift for would be job seekers.

Shelby will help you tweak your resume at the Resume And Job Search Workshop to be held on April 30, in the Town Hall Meeting Room, from 5 pm to 7 pm.

The timing of this event is perfect: On Tuesday, May 6, The Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a job fair, hosted by Stick and Stones from 2pm - 4pm, so folks can put their freshly polished resumes to work (pun intended). Shelby tells us that applicants "can apply for a variety of jobs with many different employers.  Applicants should come professionally dressed with resumes and references."

Employers who are Chamber members can participate in the job fair at no cost, not-yet-member fee is $25.00.  Table & chairs will be provided, as well as a spot to conduct interviews.

So a huge shout out to the fairy Job Mother, The Chamber, Sticks and Stones and of course all of those employers, who will be offering up summer jobs.
